What does Executive Function have to do with a Paper Retreat?
Paper piles are not really a paper problem or a personality flaw. They’re a sign your brain is overloaded. Every piece of paper needs your Executive Function to do at least one of these:
Decide: Keep it or toss it?
Organize: Where does it live?
Plan: When will I handle what’s on it?
Follow through: Did I actually do the thing?
When life is full and your brain is tired, those decisions are delayed and the piles grow and grow.
The Paper Retreat isn’t just about getting rid of your filing cabinet. It’s:
Guided decisions: You’re not staring at paper alone; you get clear rules for keep/toss/scan/shred
Simple systems: You create homes for incoming paper, bills, school forms, and to-dos so your brain doesn’t have to remember everything
Repeatable routines: You leave with a realistic way to keep up with paper in a sustainable fashion
This is where Executive Function comes in: the Paper Retreat is a paper gym on the outside and a training ground for your busy brain on the inside.
